Bali currently has the fewest compromises. Fiji is the easiest and strongest for childcare, but the live Outrigger quote is extremely high. Phuket is the most exciting “heart” option, but October weather and the Sydney return routing are weaker.

  • Short transfer after the direct flight — around 20 minutes from DPS in normal conditions.

How it matches us: the 3-year-old gets the pools, playground and beach; the baby has cot/nanny support; and booked nanny time solves the under-4 kids-club restriction when we want a birthday dinner or spa time.

  • Meimei nanny service covers ages 6 months–12 years, available 9am–11pm.
  • Infants 6m–2y use one nanny per child; ages 3–12 use one nanny per two children.
  • Current official Meimei day pricing shows FJD160 / 1 day, FJD310 / 2, FJD450 / 3 and FJD580 / 4; booking rules apply.
  • Family pool with waterslide / Splash Zone, playground and cultural activities.
  • Cribs and connecting rooms available.

How it matches us: this is the cleanest childcare setup found anywhere. Both kids are directly inside the published age ranges, which could give us genuine parent time without improvising.

The issue: at today’s live room rate, Outrigger is over A$12k more than the Bali hotel before packages/promotions. I would only choose it after checking a direct resort package or a second Fiji hotel.

How it matches us: this is probably the resort we would be most excited about. The child facilities are excellent and the setting feels special enough for the 50th.

Current recommendation

Bali is the sweet spot.

  1. Bali — 9.6/10: best combination of price, October weather, direct flights and family resort infrastructure.
  2. Fiji — 9.4/10: easiest and best childcare, but only makes sense if we beat the current Outrigger room quote.
  3. Phuket — 9.0/10: most exciting resort choice, with weather and return-flight compromises.

My decision rule: if Fiji drops dramatically through a direct package, reconsider it. Otherwise Bali is the rational winner. If we decide the trip should be more about excitement than certainty, Phuket becomes the emotional pick.
